Congressional Democrats’ dismal 2020 election had many wondering about Nancy Pelosi’s future.
And now all hell is breaking loose.
That’s because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made this major announcement about replacing Nancy Pelosi.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez savaged the Democrat Party leadership in Congress declaring that it was time to move on from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
“I do think we need new leadership in the Democratic Party,” Ocasio-Corteztold the Intercepted podcast host, Jeremy Scahill. “I think one of the things that I have struggled with, I think that a lot of people struggle with, is the internal dynamics of the House has made it such that there [are] very little options for succession.”
Ocasio-Cortez worried that since the 80-year-old Pelosi said she would only serve two terms when she seized the Speaker’s gavel in 2019, the Democrats did not prepare a bench of future leaders to take over when Pelosi eventually departed the political stage.
“My concern — and I acknowledge this as a failing, as something that we need to sort out — is that there isn’t a plan,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “How do we fill that vacuum? Because if you create that vacuum, there are so many nefarious forces at play to fill that vacuum with something even worse. And so, the actual sad state of affairs is that there are folks more conservative than even they are willing to kind of fill that void.”
The natural follow-up question from Scahill was if Ocasio-Cortez was willing to throw her hat in the ring to replace Pelosi.
But Ocasio-Cortez replied that the job of Speaker of the House was not for her.
“The House is extraordinarily complex and I’m not ready,” Ocasio-Cortez explained. “It can’t be me. I know that I couldn’t do that job.”
Some commentators took that answer to mean that Ocasio-Cortez chickened out when put on the spot.
Instead, Ocasio-Cortez may have a different career path in mind.
Chuck Schumer is up for re-election in 2022.
Ocasio-Cortez could be thinking of mounting a primary challenge to oust Schumer in two years.
With her social media prowess and following as well as her online fundraising prowess, Ocasio-Cortez would present a formidable challenge to Schumer.
Ocasio-Cortez clearly believes the Democrats need new leaders.
And there is also heat in Schumer as the 2020 election cycle was the third straight failed attempt by Democrats to win back a Senate majority.

If Ocasio-Cortez contends that Democrats need to replace Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, and Ocasio-Cortez is unwilling to take on Pelosi, that leaves only one option for Ocasio-Cortez to effect change in the ranks of Democrat Party leadership.
And that is bad news for Chuck Schumer.
